“Agriculture continues to be a mainstay as it has been for the past 150 years.”
Today, agriculture is a driving economic force in Lanesboro. The surrounding land is idyllic for crops and pastures. In the nearby area, there are hundreds of family-owned farms. Those farms are supported by two long-time businesses in Lanesboro: the RLH Grain Elevator, and the Lanesboro Sales Commission.
“A vibrant downtown business district of shops and fine restaurants attract local residents and visitors alike.”
For a little town with a population of 754 people, we've got the kinds of businesses that can support an influx of about 2,000 people per day! Lanesboro has a variety of unique shops, surprisingly delicious restaurants, and welcoming lodging establishments open year-round. Our businesses, combined with Lanesboro's historic look, and the natural beauty of the bluffs make downtown Lanesboro the place to be!
People come from all over to experience Lanesboro's beauty, and with that, they bring with them a love of the arts. All of Lanesboro is what we call an "Arts Campus," meaning there are opportunities for art everywhere! Lanesboro Arts, a non-profit organization, is a driving engine in our community that hosts a diverse gallery and a number of performing acts throughout the year.
We also have a rich, wide range of theatrical opportunities in Lanesboro. In 2017, the Commonweal Theatre, Lanesboro's only professionally produced theatre company, won the MN Nonprofit Excellence Award. In addition, the Lanesboro Community Theater is very active, and we even have a local group that focuses on local history: History Alive!
Our community takes great pride in its highly-rated school, the K-12 “Burros”, that also offers its own licensed day care center.
Lanesboro has a lot of room to boast when it comes to our outdoor activities. The Root River winds its way around the edges of town, and is a playground for tubing, canoeing and kayaking.
Running along the river, you will find The Root River State Biking Trail, where you can enjoy activities such as biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and birding!
Do you like to fish? Our bluff country streams offer some of the best trout fishing in the country!
"Discover what's in your nature" at Eagle Bluff, a private, non-profit residential environmental learning center, which provides accredited education programs & outdoor adventures in the scenic bluff country near Lanesboro.
Founded in 1978, Eagle Bluff provides transformative experiences through a variety of programs for children and adults, which empower people to care for the earth and each other.
